Arash Fayez (b. 1984 in Tehran, lives in San Francisco), Allah’o Akbar, 2009. Stereo, 3:48
Recorded in Tehran after the contested presidential elections in 2009, the voices of people tirelessly call out Allah’o Akbar from the roofs of their buildings at night. Their voices reverberate in the soundscape of the city as the lights in the windows change from black-and-white to color, and the brightest light that emanates from the mosque turns green. Lights and voices in the video are accompanied by the dates – “1979″ and “2009″ – that briefly appear as subtitles, specifying the historical milestones in the continuous time/video loop.
